Concentration Requirements

Chicago Booth offers 14 concentrations, listed below, which students can pursue. For students who choose to complete a concentration, a notation is made on their official transcript. Concentrations are not required for graduation.

Accounting

Four courses chosen from the following list: Business 30000, 30001, 30105, 30116, 30117, 30118, and 30130

Econometrics and Statistics

Three courses chosen from the following list: Business 41000, 41100, 41201, 41202, 41203, 41301, 41901, 41902, 41903, 41910, 41911, 41912, 41913, 41914, and 41915.

Economics

Four courses chosen from the following list: Business 33031 (or 33032 or 33302), 33040, 33101 (or 33901), 33102, 33111, 33202, 33221, 33304, 33305, 33401, 33402, 33403, 33470, 33501 (or 33502 or 33504), 33520, 42001, and 42116. Business 33001 does not qualify toward a concentration.

Entrepreneurship

Three courses chosen from the following list: Business 30118, 33221, 34101, 34102, 34103, 34104, 34105, 34106, 34110, 34111, 34701, 34702, 34703, 34704, 36103, 37201, 37301, 37302, 37701, 39101, 39201, 41301, 42103, 42120, and Law 71401.

Finance

Business 35000 (or one of 35120, 35150, 35151, 35901, or 35904) and 35200 (or one of 35201, 35902, or 35903), and at least two other courses chosen from the following list: Business 30130, 33510, 34101, 35100, 35101, 35120, 35121, 35130, 35131, 35132, 35150, 35151, 35152, 35201, 35202, 35205, 35206, 35210, 35211, 35215, 35903, 35904, 35905, 35906, 35907, 35908, 35909, 35910, 35912, 41203, and 41915. Students taking Business 35000 and 35200 may count either Business 35901 or 35902 (but not both) as one of the two additional courses. Note: Courses meeting a finance concentration, but not an analytic finance concentration include Business 30130, 33510, 35000, 35101, 35205, 35206, and 35910.

Analytic Finance

Six courses chosen from the following list: Business 34101, 35100, 35120, 35121, 35130, 35131, 35132, 35150, 35151, 35152, 35200, 35201, 35202, 35210, 35211, 35215, 35901, 35902, 35903, 35904, 35905, 35906, 35907, 35908, 35909, 35912, 41203, and 41915. The student must also satisfy the finance requirements.

General Management (effective summer 2009)

First satisfy all seven of the functions, management, and business environment requirements; second, complete at least three courses from those that count toward a concentration in either strategic management or managerial and organizational behavior.

General Management (prior to summer 2009)

First satisfy all six of the breadth requirements; second, complete at least four courses from those that count toward a concentration in either strategic management or managerial and organizational behavior.

Analytic Management (effective summer 2009)

Four courses chosen from the following list: Business 36106, 37103, 37202, 40101, 40108, 40109, 41201, and 42110. No more than two courses from each area will be counted toward the concentration.

Human Resource Management

Three courses chosen from the following list: Business 33031, 33032, 33301, 33302, and 33311.

International Business

Three courses chosen from the following list: Business 33302, 33402, 33501, 33502, 33503, 33510, 33520, 33521, 33523, 34703, and 35210. At least one must be 33501 or 33502.

Managerial and Organizational Behavior

Four courses chosen from the following lists: Business 38001, 38002, 38003, 38103, 38110, 38111, 38116, 38117, 39002, and 31702.

Marketing Management

Business 37000 and at least three additional courses from among 37101, 37102, 37103, 37104, 37106, 37201, 37202, 37203, 37205, 37303, 37400, 37701, and 41301.

Operations Management

Three courses chosen from the following list: Business 36106, 40000, 40101, 40107, 40108, and 40110.

Strategic Management

Four courses chosen from the following list: Business 33503, 34102, 34103, 37400, 37701, 39001, 39101, 39200, 39201, 42001, 42002, 42102, 42103, 42107, 42108, 42109, 42110, 42113, 42114, 42115, 42116, and 42120. Students can count only one course toward both the entrepreneurship and strategic management concentrations.
